FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. How do I book an appointment?
Booking is simple. Just visit our online booking page, choose a date and time that suits you, fill out your forms, and make payment to confirm your appointment.
Once booked, you’ll receive an email with all the details and what to expect on the day.
If you prefer, you can also call or email us and we’ll help you get everything arranged.
2. What should I expect during the appointment?
When your phlebotomist arrives, they’ll make sure you feel comfortable before starting. A clean workspace will be set up, usually at your kitchen table or a suitable spot with good light. The blood draw itself is quick — it only takes a few minutes — and most people describe it as a small scratch or pinch.
Your phlebotomist will explain each step as they go, check that you’re okay, and make sure you feel fine before they leave.
3. How should I prepare for my blood test?
Most tests don’t need any special preparation, but some may ask you to fast or avoid certain foods or drinks beforehand. Others need to be done at a specific time of day — usually between 6 am and 10 am — for the most accurate results.
You can view the preparation instructions when booking your test, and they’ll also be emailed to you after your appointment is confirmed. It’s important to read these carefully so you know exactly what to do before your blood draw.
Try to start drinking water around 12 hours before your appointment so you’re well hydrated. A few glasses spaced through the day is ideal — there’s no need to drink large amounts right before your test.
4. Will I experience bruising, discomfort, or complications after the blood draw?
It’s normal to have a small bruise or a little tenderness where the needle went in. This usually fades within a few days and doesn’t need any special treatment.
Our phlebotomists are hospital-trained and take great care to minimise any discomfort during and after your appointment. In rare cases, you might notice a slightly larger bruise or mild swelling — this is usually harmless and settles on its own.
If you ever have ongoing pain, significant bruising, or anything that doesn’t feel right, you should contact your GP or another healthcare professional for advice.
5. What aftercare should I follow?
After your blood draw, keep the plaster or dressing on for at least four hours. Try not to lift anything heavy with that arm for the rest of the day, as this helps reduce bruising or swelling.
If you notice mild tenderness or a small bruise, a cold compress can help. Avoid rubbing or massaging the area. Any marks or soreness should fade within a few days.
6. What should I do if I feel faint or unwell during or after the appointment?
Our phlebotomists are trained to manage this safely. If you start to feel faint or unwell during your appointment, let your phlebotomist know straight away so they can help you feel comfortable and allow time to recover.
If you feel unwell afterwards, sit or lie down, drink some water, and rest until you feel better. Most people recover quickly, but if symptoms continue, contact your GP or call NHS 111 for advice.
7. Is the procedure safe?
Yes. Your safety is our top priority. Every appointment is carried out by a hospital-trained phlebotomist who follows strict infection control and hygiene standards.
We use single-use needles, gloves, and protective equipment for each client, and all samples are handled using aseptic, non-touch techniques. You can feel confident knowing your blood draw is performed to the same standard you’d expect in a hospital setting.
8. What types of blood test kits do you support?
We now offer our own range of blood test kits, which include everything you need — the test kit, your professional blood draw, and a doctor’s report with your verified results. This is the easiest option, as we bring the kit with us to your appointment and handle everything for you.
We also provide blood draw services for other reputable third-party test kits, as long as they use venous samples. You’ll just need to have your kit, packaging, and paperwork ready for your appointment.
If you’re unsure whether your test is suitable, get in touch and we’ll be happy to confirm before you book.
9. Who handles my sample after collection and how do I access my results?
If you’ve ordered one of our blood test kits, we take care of everything for you. Your sample is prepared and sent to a UKAS-accredited laboratory for analysis, and your results and doctor’s report will be emailed to you securely once they’re ready.
If you’re using a test kit from another provider, your phlebotomist will collect your sample safely and return it to you so you can post it using the packaging and instructions provided with your kit. In these cases, your results will come directly from your test provider.
10. What if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. You can make changes easily through your booking confirmation link.
Because payment is taken at the time of booking, appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are non-refundable. This helps us manage our schedule fairly and keep appointment times available for other clients.
You can find full details in our here.
11. I have needle phobia. Can you still help me?
Yes — many of our clients feel nervous about needles, and that’s completely normal. Our phlebotomists are hospital-trained and experienced in supporting clients with needle phobia.
We’ll take things at your pace, explain what’s happening, and use gentle, distraction-based techniques to help you feel more comfortable. Being in your own home or a familiar setting often helps too.
If you’re worried before your appointment, just let us know — we’ll do everything we can to make the experience as calm and positive as possible.
12. Do you offer blood collection services to children?
Our current service is for adults aged 18 and over. We’re working towards expanding our service to include children once all safeguarding and clinical processes are fully in place.
If you need help arranging a blood test for a child, we may be able to signpost you to a suitable local service. You can also join our mailing list for updates when paediatric appointments become available.
13. How much do your services cost?
Our standard blood draw appointment in Swindon is £75. This includes your professional phlebotomy appointment and travel within the Swindon area.
If you’re based outside Swindon, a small travel fee of £1 per mile applies. Weekend appointments are available for an additional £40.
For clients booking our own blood test kits, the price shown at the time of booking includes everything — the test kit, professional blood draw, and your doctor’s report.
14. What areas do you cover?
We’re based in Swindon and cover all areas within and around the town. This includes nearby villages and towns across Wiltshire and the surrounding areas.
If you’re based outside Swindon, we’re happy to travel — a small travel fee of £1 per mile applies.
We’re always expanding, so if you’re unsure whether we can come to your area, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to check for you.
15. What’s included with your blood test kits?
Our blood test kits make the process simple from start to finish. Each kit includes the test itself, your professional blood draw, and a doctor’s report with your verified results. There’s nothing extra to arrange — we bring the kit to your appointment, take your sample, and make sure it’s prepared and sent safely for testing.
Once your results are ready, they’ll be emailed to you securely along with your doctor’s report. You can then share these with your GP or healthcare practitioner if you’d like to discuss them further.
