The blood draw itself usually takes only a few minutes. Most people describe the feeling as a small scratch or pinch.
We will check that you feel well before you leave. If you are nervous about blood tests, have difficult veins or have fainted before, please tell us so we can support you during your appointment.
You can book an appointment at our Swindon clinic or choose a mobile visit at your home or workplace.
Mobile appointments are available across Swindon and surrounding areas. Travel fees may apply outside Swindon.
Preparation depends on the test you have chosen.
Some tests need no special preparation. Others may need fasting, a certain time of day, or changes to supplements before your appointment.
Any specific instructions will be shown with your test and sent to you when you book.
It can also help to stay well hydrated before your blood draw unless your test instructions tell you otherwise.
After your blood draw, keep the plaster or dressing in place for around 30–60 minutes.
A small amount of tenderness or bruising can sometimes happen afterwards and usually settles within a few days.
Try to avoid heavy lifting with that arm for at least a few hours after your blood draw. If you notice a small bruise, a cold compress may help.
